Embracing The “What Would Jesus Do?” Philosophy

So, what would Jesus do?

In our daily lives, amidst the hustle and bustle, it’s easy to get lost in the myriad decisions and actions that fill our days. However, for those seeking a life aligned with spiritual values, we can ask ourselves a profoundly simple yet transformative question: “What would Jesus do?”

This question isn’t just a modern catchphrase; it’s a call to align our actions with the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. By considering God in all our actions and decisions, we aim to live a life reflecting Christ’s love, wisdom, and compassion.

Scriptural Guidance:

  1. Proverbs 3:6: “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” This verse reminds us to consider God in all aspects of our lives. Doing so allows His wisdom and guidance to shape our paths.
  2. Philippians 2:5: “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” Adopting the mindset of Christ means approaching situations with humility, love, and a servant’s heart.
  3. 1 John 2:6: “Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.” This is a direct call to emulate Jesus in our actions, choices, and interactions.
  4. James 1:22: “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” It’s not enough to merely know what Jesus would do; we must implement those teachings.

Living it Out:

We can start by diving into the Word of God to live out this principle. Understanding Jesus’ actions, his interactions with others, and his teachings in the Gospels gives us a clear blueprint. Whether showing kindness to a stranger, offering forgiveness, standing for justice, or extending a helping hand, each action guided by the question, “What would Jesus do?” brings us closer to living a life that glorifies God.

Application in Daily Life:

  • In conflicts, seek to respond with understanding and peace, as Jesus did.
  • When faced with decisions, big or small, consider the principles Jesus taught: love, justice, mercy, and faith.
  • In interactions with others, strive to demonstrate the unconditional love and compassion that Jesus showed.

In essence, considering God in all we do and asking, “What would Jesus do?” is not just about making the right choices. It’s about transforming our lives to mirror the life of Jesus, influencing those around us positively, and becoming beacons of God’s light in a world that desperately needs it.

Conclusion

In embracing the question, “What would Jesus do?” we embark on a journey of intentional faithfulness. This journey is not about perfection but about striving each day to reflect the love and teachings of Jesus in our actions and decisions. It’s a commitment to live not just for ourselves but in a way that honors God and extends His grace to others.
As we apply the wisdom of the Scriptures in our daily lives, we find that our choices become more than just personal decisions; they become testaments of our faith. This approach to life transforms not only how we see the world but also how we interact with it. We become agents of change, carriers of hope, and examples of God’s love.
Remember, the impact of living a life that constantly seeks to answer “What would Jesus do?” extends far beyond our personal growth. It reaches into our communities, touching the lives of those around us and reflecting Christ’s light in the darkest places. So, let us go forward with the Word of God as our guide and do likewise, knowing that in each act of kindness, each moment of patience, and every gesture of love, we are living out the very essence of our faith.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). As we consider God in all that we do, let us shine brightly, illuminating the path for others, and living a life that echoes the love and compassion of Jesus in every step.
