Redemption
Easton’s Bible Dictionary defines redemption as the purchase back of something lost by the payment of a ransom. Jesus’s blood which He gave for the redemption of mankind, paid this ransom. Jesus brought us Salvation! Glory to God!
See below for an explanation of Salvation: We are acquitted from our sins by the Blood of Jesus! We are justified (just as if we never sinned) by faith in the finished work of Jesus at the cross!
Romans 5:8-11 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
8 But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.
9 Therefore, since we are now justified (acquitted, made righteous, and brought into right relationship with God) by Christ’s blood, how much more [certain is it that] we shall be saved by Him from the indignation and wrath of God.
10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, it is much more [certain], now that we are reconciled, that we shall be saved (daily delivered from sin’s dominion) through His [resurrection] life.
11 Not only so, but we also rejoice and exultingly glory in God [in His love and perfection] through our Lord Jesus Christ, through Whom we have now received and enjoy [our] reconciliation.
Leviticus 5:14-16 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
14 And the Lord said to Moses,
15 If anyone commits a breach of faith and sins unwittingly in the holy things of the Lord, he shall bring his trespass or guilt offering to the Lord, a ram without blemish out of the flock, valued by you in shekels of silver, that is, the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass or guilt offering.
16 And he shall make restitution for what he has done amiss in the holy thing, and shall add a fifth to it, and give it to the priest, and the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass or guilt offering, and he shall be forgiven.
Remission
On the other hand, the remission of sin in the Old Testament was an annual event! Remission, as explained in the Old Testament, did not result in salvation. The yearly sacrifice resulted in an annual exemption from the sins’ consequences upon accepting offerings (a ram without blemish) presented by the High Priest.
If we bring the term remission into the modern-day, often, sick people may be in remission from the sickness for a while (while waiting for a permanent cure). See below for an explanation of the remission of sins.
16 And he shall make restitution for what he has done amiss in the holy thing, and shall add a fifth to it, and give it to the priest; and the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass or guilt offering, and he shall be forgiven.
By paying the price of redemption, Jesus paid the price for our sins once and for all! We are eternally grateful for the finished work of Jesus on the cross! John 3:16 tells us that because of the Love of the father for mankind and His desire to restore man to fellowship with God, God sent His son to pay the ultimate price!
What qualified Jesus to pay the price for our sins? He was born of a woman (remember the virgin birth did not have a man’s involvement), not of man (who was a descendant of Adam)!
Salvation
What is salvation and how does Salvation take place? Salvation means preservation from sin and eternal death! Salvation means more! Remember, the price of salvation is paid in full!
When I think of salvation, I think of a credit card debt that is paid is full! Nobody is going to call you about this debt! The credit reporting agency will record the payment as paid in full or a zero balance! Glory to God!
Romans 10:9-10 tells us:
9 Because if you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth, he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation.
“If man had his way, the plan of redemption would be an endless and bloody conflict. In reality, salvation was bought not by Jesus’ fist, but by His nail-pierced hands; not by muscle but by love; not by vengeance but by forgiveness; not by force but by sacrifice. Jesus Christ our Lord surrendered in order that He might win; He destroyed His enemies by dying for them and conquered death by allowing death to conquer Him.”
