Joshua 1:8-9 New Living Translation
8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
So, in the context of that scripture, sometimes, we may read it and say, well, the Lord is with me wherever I go, but there’s a key phrase there, and that key phrase is you’re going (there is movement)!
Joshua 1:3 New Living Translation
3 I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you—
So, see, there’s also a keyword: Tread, meaning that there’s some form of movement. Because often you know we read the scriptures. We feel that there’s nothing I need to do, so God has given it to me for possession by the soles of my feet.
He has already provided the word; He’s provided the promises that are in the Word. Still, there is a responsibility that we have in this whole process. Hence, we’re not passive participants; we are active participants in the promises of God concerning us. He says all the promises of God are “Yes” and “Amen,” but if you don’t know what the promises say, how do you know what that’s Yes and Amen? Is it enough for you to listen to somebody on YouTube or listen to somebody on the pulpit that you are going to get this or you’re going to get this. What is the role that you have to play?
I felt it was important to kind to put this discussion in context because we’re getting to the end of March and remember, at the end of February, I asked the question: “What’s the plan for March? So, now we are getting to the end of March, how far have you gone with your plan? There might be some tweaks you need to make here or there! There might be some things that you will need to activate. However, there is a doing part of it, and there is an action part of the process.
There’s a personal responsibility part of it. There’s something you must do and there is something that God will do so. It’s like a contract. The contract has the terms and conditions or has the reps and warranties. Still, certain things must happen for something else to happen. You know, so if this doesn’t happen, then you know, your indemnity doesn’t kick in, especially if there’s no issue.
However, even in the context of the word of God, we have a personal responsibility. We have certain things that we must do. We have certain actions that we must take. If you believe God for a job, then we need to dust off the resume. We need to start to look at questions such as behavioral questions or do some research on the company that we’re interviewing with. All these steps tell me something: that there’s a give and take, there’s a personal responsibility, and there’s an accountability part.
