Ziklag: Where You Strengthen Yourself and Inquire of God
1 Samuel 30:1, 6–8 (NKJV)

“Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag… the Amalekites had invaded… and burned it with fire…
David was greatly distressed… but David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
Then David said to Abiathar the priest… ‘Please bring the ephod here to me.’
So David inquired of the Lord, saying, ‘Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?’
And He answered him, ‘Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.’”

Burned but not broken

David returns to devastation. His home in Ziklag is gone. His family is taken. His leadership is questioned.
Yet, in the middle of trauma and betrayal, David doesn’t collapse.
He does two critical things:

  1. He strengthened himself in the Lord.
  2. He inquired of God.

The Secret of Prayer in Crisis

David didn’t react with rage.
He didn’t move with emotion.
He prayed with intention:

“Lord, what do You want me to do about this?”

This one question changed everything.

📌 Instead of assuming, he asked.
📌 Instead of panicking, he paused.
📌 Instead of breaking down, he built himself up in God.

And because of that moment, he received clarity, courage, and confirmation:

“Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.” 1 Samuel 30:8 NKJV

When you’re in your own Ziklag…

Ziklag represents more than a city.
It’s the season of loss, of pressure, of feeling forgotten or falsely accused.
But just like David, you still have access to strategy.
And it starts by turning your face toward God and praying:

“Lord, what do You want me to do about this situation?”

That is the secret of spiritual resilience.

Prayer:

Father,
In moments of devastation, when everything around me feels like ashes,
Help me to stop, breathe, and turn to You.
Show me how to strengthen myself in Your presence.
Give me clarity, strategy, and courage.
Speak, Lord and I will obey.
Amen.

Reflection:

Where in your life do you need to stop and pray:
“Lord, what do You want me to do about this?”

Drop it in the comments. Let’s agree in prayer together.
